Ministry of Road Transport & Highways is mainly responsible for development and maintenance of National Highways in the ‘Country.
Ministry is also responsible for implementation of centrally assisted schemes and formulation of standards and specifications.
The works on NHs are executed through the executing agencies and state PWDs, Border Roads Organisation (BRO) and National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) are the executing agencies.
Role of Ministry is mainly involve preparation of annual plan, examination of technical proposal, estimates, preparation and scrutiny tender documents.

However, the contract period may be curtailedl terminated by the competent authority without any further notice on the basis of functional and administrative requirements.
4.The nature of services required shall include performing duties and responsibilities in the Ministry and such other duties as may be assigned by the Chief Engineer, from time to time.
Outlines of the major responsibilities are;
a.Preparation of annual/long term plans.
b.Examination of proposals submitted by the executing agencies.
c.Preparation, submission of reports.
d.Monitoring of works.
e.Preparation of replies to RTI, Audit Paras, Parliament Questions etc.
f.Any other task assigned by the Chief Engineer.
5.The contract appointment will not create any right for regular appointment in Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.
6.The contract appointee shall be required to work normally as per the Ministry's working days, i.e. from Monday to Friday from 09.00 hrs to 17.30 hrs with half an hour lunch break from 13.00 to 13.30 hrs.
However, in the event of exigency/urgency of work in public interest, contract appointee will also be called upon to work late or on holidays including Saturdays/sundays for which no extra remuneration will be paid.
